Beat*Shot Spins for J Dilla 4
| Jan20 | CATEGORY: Branding Events / TAGS: Albany, Beat*Shot Music, Branding, J Dilla, Logo Design, Music Marketing |
February is fast approaching and that means one thing, J Dilla month is upon us. Jay Dee, the Detroit based producer has become a legend and is the most celebrated Hip Hop producer of all time. He has worked with the likes of Tribe Called Quest, Common, The Pharcyde, Busta Rhymes and countless others. DJ Trumastr founded the Beat*Shot spins for J Dilla event 3 years ago to raise funds for the J Dilla Foundation, which helps fund inner-city music programs and curriculums. The event has local musicians from the area perform, DJ and cover Jay Dee songs to pay tribute to the late producer. All proceeds from the event go to the foundation. We created this “518 donut” logo for Beat*Shot which will be featured on all materials and apparel for the event. Donuts were a huge love of J Dilla’s and was even the title for his last album right before he passed. We pay tribute to the musician who has had a monumental impact on the hip hop and music scene as a whole. Thank you Jay Dee.

Beat*Shot Music head DJ Trumastr & J-Live will be hosting his 3rd Annual Beat*Shot Spins for J Dilla, A Whole Case-A-Dilla on February 4, 2011 at Red Square in Albany. DJ Trumastr conceived of the idea to honor the late, great hip-hop producer J Dilla. James Dewitt Yancey was behind many of hip-hops hits, by artists such as Erykah Badduh, Tribe Called Quest, Common, Busta Rhymes, Slum Village, The Pharcyde and many more. True passes the proceeds on to the J Dilla Foundation, which provides funding for inner-city music programs and scholarships in James’s name. Local musicians, including Glens Falls’s very own Rawstrumentals and Midas from Sub-Bombin Records will be performing Dilla tributes and tunes. Local visual artists will also be selling artwork of inspired by Jay Dee. When True got in touch with us about creating the look for this years event, we couldn’t pass it up and wanted to be a part of one of Albany’s top events. We commissioned an illustration of the producer by Corey John who created a unique perspective of Dilla, while using his unique illustration style. The design will be incorporated into web, print and shirts for the event. Local music and hip-hop fans out there in Albany on February 4, come out to Red Square to pay tribute, and have a great time for a great cause.

‘Heavy’ Arts & Music Event at St. Joseph’s in Albany
| Jul24 | CATEGORY: Events / TAGS: Albany, Art, Beat*Shot Music, Events, St. Joseph's Church, Sub-Bombin Records |
Heavy. The title of the 4 day multicultural arts and music event held at Albany’s St. Joseph’s Church definitely lived up to its name. Orchestrated by Sampson Contompasis of the Marketplace Gallery in Albany and friends, the event features local and out-of-state artists featuring their work, along with performances by other local musical acts. The event benefit raises funds for the restoration of St. Joseph’s Church in downtown Albany’s Ten Broeck Historic District. The church, which no longer provides spiritual worship to Albany’s citizens, was becoming deteriorated after it changed hands several times and faced being demolished. Finally, the Historic Albany Foundation aquired the property and began spearheading fundraisers to keep this beautiful piece of Albany architecture from being destroyed.
We went to the opening Friday, July 23 and it was nothing short of spectacular. We attended last year’s event at St. Joseph’s (Flux), and was blown away by the grandiose scale of that exhibition. This was no different. It seemed every inch of the property had been taken over by one artist or more. The shear scale of the church made for a night of wondering throughout all the art and the building a memorable one. We were happy at Freshrr to go out and support such great artists, great musicians and a fabulous cause. We encourage you to go check out Heavy, it is still going on through July 25. Their website has more information here. We also encourage you to check out our Flickr page to see some our photos from the evening.

If you’re in the Albany or Capital Region area this weekend for the holiday, we suggest you head down to Red Square in downtown Albany to the 2nd Annual Beat*Shot Festival on July 2 & 3. Started by DJ Trumastr & Lofi-Lobo last year to celebrate great music, independant thinking and all things groovy. This year the festival features musicians, artists, photographers, fashion and much more. Freshrr has worked with several musicians that are participating in this year’s festival, including J-Live, Homeboy Sandman, and a slew of Sub-Bombin artists. Hats off to True and Jody for putting together such a great event to support and feature local and out-of-state artists. Kudos!
The Beat*Shot Festival is being held at Red Square on both Friday, July 2 and Saturday, July 3. Here is the schedule.
