Local record label Sub-Bombin Records newest release, Rawhead’s Psychopomp, is an “aural eardrum experience” as Brooklyn-based music critic Adam Winters put it. This was the local labels first 12″ record release in their 6-year history. When they were looking for an out-of-the-box approach to the jacket design, they came to us. We shot all the photos for the jacket for Sub-Bombin. Rawhead’s childhood iron chime gave us the inspiration for the look, as well as it being used in a couple of tracks on the album itself. Psychopomp itself means: creatures, spirits, angels, or deities in many religions whose responsibility is to escort newly deceased souls to the afterlife. Their role is not to judge the deceased, but simply provide safe passage, which also gave us some ideas. Color played a crucial factor in the design of the jacket, the cool green fits the ambiance and mood of the beats that Rawhead lays to wax.
